Federal Court to Hear Fair Housing Challenge

Missouri college files suit on religious issues related to gender.

A private Christian college in Missouri has filed suit in federal court regarding a Fair Housing regulation that violates the free exercise of religion. As a result of President Biden’s executive action in January that changed the definition of sex to include sexual orientation and gender identity, the Department of Housing and Urban Development issued a directive requiring schools to allow members of the opposite sex into dormitories and shower facilities.

Schools that do not comply with the administration’s policies on discrimination face possible fines into the six figures, as well as punitive damages and attorneys’ fees.

The suit brought by the College of the Ozarks states the requirement to allow dorm access based on sexual orientation or gender identity runs counter to the religious liberty clause of the Constitution. The claim is that the rule violates the operation of the school, and its housing, according to the tenets of Christian belief.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the federal judge to have wisdom in considering the challenge to the regulation in light of the Constitutional protection of religious exercise.
  • For discernment for administration officials and advisors.
